Russell Sinclair Acker, 97, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away in his home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Russ was born on March 18, 1929 in Orange, New Jersey to James Harold and Edna Francis (Lang) Acker. He grew up in Montclair and Lake Mohawk, New Jersey and he graduated high school at Blair Academy in New Jersey. Russ attended Florida Southern College where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity and he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1951. He met Edna Julia Crenshaw (Julie) while at Florida Southern they were married in Coleman, Florida on June 10, 1951. He initially taught school in Wildwood, Florida and was then drafted and served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, Russ and Julie moved to New Jersey and he began work in Investment Banking with his father at James H. Acker and Company in New York City. Russ subsequently worked as a Stock and Bond Trader on Wall Street for 20 years at Cutter Bennett Securities Corporation. On May 1, 1980 he opened his own firm, Acker-Wolman Securities Corporation, with an office in New Jersey and he and Julie later opened a branch office in Daytona Beach. Upon closing his business in 1999, he worked with AG Edwards and subsequently Wells Fargo Advisors in Daytona Beach. Russ was well respected for being straight forward and diligent for his clients and many developed close friendships with him over the years. Russ was a great husband and father who helped provide care for his daughter Debbie, who was born with Cystic Fibrosis, and later for Julie through extensive illnesses. Following his retirement, Russ remained active in his church and in maintaining his home. His favorite activity was walking the beach where he enjoyed meeting and engaging other people. It was on a beach walk that he met Karie Snyder and they were married on the beach on April 6, 2019. In July of 2022, Russ dedicated his life to Jesus and was baptized in the ocean.
Russ is survived by his loving wife and companion, Karie L. Acker; son Dr. James Herbert Acker of Ormond Beach; brother Dr. Stephen E. Acker (wife Dee Acker) of Austin, Texas; granddaughter Lela Julia Pauletti (husband Andrew Pauletti) of Warner-Robbins, Georgia; granddaughter; Emily Victoria Acker of Alexandria, Virginia; great grandson Lucas James Pauletti; and many lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his former spouse, Edna Julia Acker in 2016 and by his daughter, Dr. Debra Nell Acker in 1992.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 5 PM – 7 PM at the Lohman Funeral Home located at 733 West Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, Florida 32174. There will be a Celebration of Russ’ Life at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the funeral home. Everyone is encouraged to wear something colorful to honor Russ. Entombment will follow and will take place at the Grace Lutheran Church Garden of Resurrection located at 338 Ocean Shore Blvd, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176.
