Winslow Parker George Jr., 89, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Halifax Health Hospice.

Parker was born in Chelmsford, Mass., and moved to this area in 1989. He was a retired supervisor with the United Postal Service. He was a charter member, past elder, and deacon of of the United Presbyterian Church. He served as the Executive Council Chairman of First United Methodist Church of Daytona Beach, which ended its ministry in 2001 after 123 years in the downtown location. He also served as President of the LaCosta Home Owners Association in Port Orange four times with the latest being in 2007.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in England, France, and Germany in the Army. His unit received some six battle stars during that war. Prior to moving to the Daytona area, Parker was a deacon and moderator of the First Baptist Church of Chelmsford. He was involved in his hometown affairs being the first chairman of the Town Recreation Committee and as president of the Little League. He was a sports correspondent for the weekly newspaper and also covered sports for the daily Lowell Sun. He had his own column in the Chelmsford Newsweekly. He enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed watching sports on TV.

His wife, Helen, predeceased him in 2004. A son, Douglas R., predeceased him in 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Lynn C. George of Worcester, MA, and Susan E. Boyne (Michael), of Daytona Beach; one son Winslow P. George III (Arianne); daughter-in-law Cheryl (Dupee) George of Greer SC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. His grandchildren include Douglas Robert Jr. & (Angela) of Lenoir City, TN; Keri Beth Ponder of Worcester, MA ; Justin Matthew George of Knoxville, TN ; Steven M. Allen of Worcester, MA ; Courtney & (Daniel) Hamilton of Powell, TN; and Nicole R. Boyne of Daytona Beach, FL. His great- grandchildren are Sarah, Brooke and Emma Ponder, all of Worcester, Vincent Allen of Worcester, Lucy Bella George and Lily Kate George, both of Knoxville, Harper Louise Hamilton of Powell, and Parker Douglas George of Knoxville. His great-great-grandchild is Jordyn Rose Allen of Worcester.

The family would like to thank the entire nursing staff at Halifax Health Hospice for their support respect and genuine caring for W.P. George Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at United Presbyterian Church, 730 Beville Road, Daytona Beach. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange Florida 32129.
