Obituary

Winfield Cornelius Blakely 83 of Palm Coast Florida passed away on Sunday July 21 2013 on the beach in Pigeon Point Tobago. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday August 28 2013 at 11 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Palm Coast. Winfield was born in Charlotteville Tobago on October 16 1929 to the late William Blakely and Elizabeth Thatcher. On February 16 1958 Winfield married the love of his life Derleen McKenzie and together they had three beautiful children Pantaleon Carlene and Nelia. In 1960 Winfield and his family immigrated to the United States settling in to New York. He was employed for the New York Transit Authority and IBM retiring in 1990. Upon retiring Winfield and Derleen moved to Palm Coast Florida. Here they provided a happy and fun place for their children and grandchildren to visit. He enjoyed to people watch go hunting and swimming in the sea. Winfield also loved a good party. He enjoyed sharing his stories of the animals he chased and caught in the bush when hunting and of getting in trouble for swimming in the sea when he was to be working. He will be remembered for his love of Tobago and his enormous generosity and love for his family and friends. Winfield Blakely lived life by his own rules there was no pretense. Good or Bad everyone knew where they stood with Him. Winfield is survived by his beloved wife Derleen Blakely children Pantaleon and Parris Beverly Carlene and Steven Mitchell and Nelia Blakely siblings Norris and Miriam Blakely and Harriet Rauceo. He was also the loving grandfather to his grandchildren Alicia Bryce Nicole and Brendan. Winfield also leaves behind many nieces nephews cousins and in-laws including John and Ann Barrow Rena Antoine Lisa Barrow Glenna McKenzie-Bernard Hugo McKenzie Raymond McKenzie and all of their families and special friends Violet and Sidney Honeygan. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent for the St. Thomas Endowment Fund direct to St. Thomas Episcopal Church 5400 Belle Terre Pkwy. Palm Coast FL 32137.
