Memorial Services for Willie Blackmon age 54 of Port Orange who was born into eternal life Thursday December 23 2004 at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange will be on Sunday January 2 2005 at 4:00 PM at the Tubman King Community Church: 1090 George Ingram Blvd. Daytona Beach Fl with Reverend John T. Long III officiating.

Willie was born into this life July 4 1950 to Willie and Willie May Blackmon in Albany GA. He moved to this area in 1983 from Alabama. Willie was a 25 year veteran in the coaching rank has been a member numerous of championship teams on the high school and collegiate levels. He was a graduate of Miami Jackson High School and the Miles College where he obtained a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education. He also was on the fourth tenure on the coaching staff at Bethune-Cookman College serving as special team?s coordinator. He was a member of 3 college championships at the division I & II levels one with SIAC member Alabama A&M and the other at MEAC member at Bethune-Cookman. All total Mr. Blackmon served 16 seasons with the Bethune-Cookman College coaching staff.Willie played for the Jacksonville Sharks World Football League in 1976. Prior to coaching at Bethune he was an assistant coach on two Florida State Championship teams with perfect 14-0 records one being Miami Lakes and the other Miami Carol City in 1978. Willie?s coaching experiences have produced several college All Americans & All Conference Standouts. Willie?s first stint came under former coach and Hall of famer Larry Little during the 1984-1990 seasons. His resume also included several seasons at the training camps of New York Jets Green Bay Packers New Orlean Saints Miami Dolphins Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears of the NFL.
He also volunteered for Mainland and Spruce Creek High Schools coaching football. In 1999 he retired due to his illness. Willie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Willie leaves behind a loving wife of 20years Lorraine Blackmon Port Orange; Son Brandon Blackmon Port Orange; Daughters Brittany Blackmon Port Orange Tonya Jackson Dennis Miami FL; Sister Mattie Rae Williams Miami Fl; Uncles Paul and Silus Holder Cocoa Beach FL; Aunts Vera Holder and Rebecca Wynn Cocoa Beach FL; Grandchildren Princess Malik Dennis III; and a host of other relatives and friends.
