William A Thorpe of Edgewater FL and Rockland MA passed away Monday April 11 2011 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Port Orange after a brief illness. William was born in Rockland MA in 1923. He was the son of the late J. William and Helen (Delaney) Thorpe. He graduated from Rockland High School class of 1941 & Wentworth Institute in Boston. He was a World War II US Navy veteran from 1942-1946 serving in the Pacific. He worked as an electrician for Raytheon for 35 years retiring to Florida in 1988. He was an active member of St. Gerards Catholic Church in Edgewater and AARP in New Smyrna. William is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Mary (Roberts); sons Charles of Alexandria VA; David & his wife Joanne of Lakeville MA; Joseph of Rockland MA; and daughter Anne of Alexandria VA; sisters Doris Smith of Rockland MA Jean & her husband John O'Donnell of Rockland MA; two granddaughters Lauren Thorpe of Milton MA Brittany Thorpe of Lakeville MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Thorpe and his sister Mary Chenevert of Abington MA. Burial will be private & a Memorial Mass will be at a later time In Holy Family Church Rockland MA.
