William J. Szymkowiak, 82, of Port Orange, FL, and formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, was called home on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Bill grew up on the South Side of Pittsburgh, completing 12 years of Catholic education at St. Adalbert's school before entering the U.S. Air Force. At the completion of his military career, Bill attended Duquesne University where he received his degree in education, and spent his whole career teaching English to students at Sto-Rox School in McKees Rocks, PA, before retiring and moving to Florida. Bill was a world traveler, as evident by the hundreds of magnets on his kitchen fridge and he enjoyed numerous trips with the senior travel groups.

Bill was active on the board of the condo association in Daytona Beach Shores, where he lived before building his house in Port Orange. Not forgetting his Pittsburgh roots, Bill was instrumental in creating the St. Adalbert Alumnae Association which provided scholarships to students from the high school that he attended.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Ann (Kacmarczyk) and Francis Szymkowiak, his sisters, Suzanne Booritch and Sr. Barbara Marie Szymkowiak, and his brother Thomas Szymkowiak. He is survived by his good friend Paul Garofolo, his loving and devoted niece Melissa Booritch, nephews Jim and Mike Booritch, great nephews Michael, Trey and Riley Booritch, and his extended family, JoAnn Garofolo, Donna (Robert) Nipar, Alfreda (Eugene) DeLeonardis, and Susan Haushalter.

A Christian Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope, Port Orange, FL at a time to be determined.
