William J. (Bill) Pruitt Jr., 69, retired Assistant Director of Respiratory Therapy for Halifax Health, died Nov. 25, 2021.

Bill, a native of Princeton, W.Va., moved here in the late 1950s with his parents, William and Faye Pruitt. After graduating from Mainland High School in 1970. Bill attended Valencia Community College in Orlando, earning an associate's degree in respiratory therapy. He worked for Halifax Health for 34 years.

Bill's greatest passion was his family. Known for his kindness and generosity, he spent much of his time outdoors and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of nature with others. He was a member of the Tomoka Christian Church for more than 30 years. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and worked as the Director of Respiratory Services at Daytona International Speedway since the late 70's.

He gave back to his community by coaching his children and their friends in youth softball, baseball and soccer through the Ormond Beach Recreation Department. During the holidays, he enjoyed sharing foods he had cooked on the smoker with family, friends and local outreach programs.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jan; one son, William (Will) J. Pruitt III, Fort Lauderdale; one daughter, Sarah E. Pruitt, Tallahassee; and one sister, Sandi Petker (Dr. Larry Petker), Ormond Beach.

A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Lohman Funeral Home's Daytona Chapel, 1423 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114, with Pastor Joe Putting officiating. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday December 3, 2021 at the funeral home.
