Remembrance services for William Albert Michael 87 who died peacefully at his home in New Smyrna Beach on Monday December 4 2006 will be Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm December 8 2006 at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home.
Bill was the son of Lucy Jane (Comer) and Harley Rophile Michael born in Palatka FL March 2 1919. The family moved to New Smyrna Beach when he was young child. Upon graduation from the Live Oak High School Class of 1939 he entered the U.S. Coast Guard. He was stationed at the Wood End Coast Guard station in Provincetown MASS where he met and married Ernest Thompson on March 11 1943. They returned to New Smyrna Beach where Bill worked for the Florida East Coast railroad with his father over 20 years. When the railroad went on strike he returned to Massachusetts where he retired from the U.S. Dept. of Interior; National Park Service on December 7 1985 with 22 years of service.
Bill was a very quiet man who enjoyed fishing sports and seeing his great grandson Corey Heaney of Edgewater win trophies racing at the New Smyrna Beach midget racetrack.
He was predeceased by his sisters; Thelma Robinson; Orieon Croft and Elnora Mickler; and great grandson Chad Green.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ernestine; four daughters; Joyce Coleman and husband Jack; Virginia Beach VA; Carol Wesseldine and husband Bill Altmar NY; Donna Hayward and husband Charlie North Windham CT; Pat Borden and husband Larry New Smyrna Beach FL and one son John F. Michael New Smyrna Beach FL; three sisters Juanita Robinson Oak Hill FL; Eunice Burch Ft. Pierce FL; and Alice Kinderman Orange Park FL 17 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was very much loved and will be missed by all.
