William Hartley Meck 62 of New Smyrna Beach Florida departed to be with His Savior on Sunday October 18 2009. He had gracefully endured a long illness and passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born on Christmas Eve 1946 in Pineville WV. to Mervin and Nancy Meck. He was a United States Air Force veteran and served during Vietnam as a Staff Sergeant Air First Calvary Division. After returning home from Vietnam he worked as a radio announcer for WSBB was a Manager for McCrory's and was an independent truck driver for his own business "Meck Trucking" for 20 years prior to retiring. His greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren mature and develop their own lives. In the last seven years he spent time with his youngest grandchild Frasier on a daily basis. He also enjoyed riding his Honda Motorcycle reading and electronics. Always more concerned about others than himself he died as he lived peacefully with dignity and grace. He will be forever missed and forever loved by his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Brenda Meck; daughters Melissa (Russell) Petersen and Kelli Meck-Thompson; son William H. Meck II; grandchildren Shae and Kirk Petersen and Frasier Thompson. His extended family included brothers Earl (Danuta) Meck David (Pam) Meck and Stephen (Linville) Meck as well as many uncles aunts nieces nephews cousins and devoted friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents. A simple private celebration of his life will be held by his family.
