Bill Markert 84 retired Department of Transportation Road and Bridge Supervisor passed away Saturday January 05 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Orange City. His family will receive friends on Wednesday January 9 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home 935 E. New York Ave. Deland FL. His funeral services will be held on Thursday January 10 2013 at 10am at St. Peters Catholic Church in Deland. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Bill was born November 24 1928 in Clifton NJ and came to Deleon Springs FL in 1977. He was one of nine children. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He coached midget league teams in New Jersey and was the president of the Holy Name Society of St. Clare's Church. He was a salesman for the Continental Baking Company and Supervisor of the Bond Parade Float Company both of New Jersey. He is preceded in death of his wife of 59 years Ann Joyce Carrigan Markert. He is survived by his sister Betty Young of Florida. Additional survivors include his son Richard T. Markert and his wife Linda of New Jersey his daughter Barbara A. Kiser and husband Larry of New York and his daughter Carol M. Sullo and husband Richard of Florida. He has two grandchildren Jennifer A. Bailey and husband James of New York and Rachel Centner and husband Jimmy of New York. He was blessed to have two wonderful great grandchildren Ryan Bailey and Shane Centner both of New York.
