Mr. William "Bill" Hernandez, 77, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Advent Health Hospital, Daytona Beach, Florida. He was born March 30, 1942 in East Chicago, Indiana to Ralph and Ada (Linz) Hernandez. Bill was an Operations Project Manager with Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana for 30 years and retired at the age of 50.  After retirement, he and his wife moved to Ormond Beach, Florida where he always said, "It was a vacation everyday."  He enjoyed spending time with his wife Rita of 57 years.  He loved his family and friends and enjoyed bike riding, fishing, tennis, taking walks with his wife, and he was a car enthusiast.  To his nieces and nephews, he will always and forever be "Uncle Billy".  He was a wonderful grandfather.  He will always be forever remembered for his laughter, orneriness and fun nature.  He gave great advice and was the foundation, rock and pedestal of his family.  He was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand.  He was the go-to-guy.  He was an active member of his community, Ormond Lakes.  He enjoyed people and never met a stranger.  He was an amazing man who enjoyed life to the fullest.  Bill was admired and respected by many. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rita Hernandez of Ormond Beach, by his two children Keith Hernandez (Kelley) of Elizabeth, CO and Denice Hernandez-Trulley of Crown Point, IN, two brothers, Gary Hernandez, David Hernandez (Judy) and one sister Janice Vowell (Jim), nine grandchildren, Steven Hernandez, Jessica Hernandez, Morgan Trulley, Devin Hernandez, Nolan Hernandez, Clayton Trulley, Danielle Hernandez, Nicolas Hernandez and Neena Hernandez and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Ada (Mother) and Leo Halfman (Stepfather) of Merrillville, IN and Ralph Hernandez (Father) of East Chicago, IN.  Also, son Richard Hernandez (Doreen) of Ormond Beach, FL. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21st from 4-7 pm at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 22nd at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church; 600 S. Nova Road Ormond Beach.
