Obituary

William L. Hart Jr. passed away peacefully at his residence in Port Orange, Florida on June 4, 2024. He was born on September 8, 1951 to William and Joan Hart of Troy N.Y. A longtime resident of Troy, Bill was a parishioner of Sacred Heart and a graduate of Catholic High in 1970.

Bill derived great happiness from helping others and was well-respected as an autobody technician at Hart's Body Shop; insurance claims adjuster at General Accident and MetLife; and most meaningful to him, as a teacher at Boces and Questar. He was also a Hunter Safety instructor at the Watervliet Rod and Gun Club, where he was active in shooting sports.

A patriot at heart, Bill loved his country and was a strong advocate of second amendment rights, and proudly supported veterans. He organized and led several political rallies throughout New York State and was most proud of his work to organize Vietnam Veterans in protest of Jane Fonda at Emma Willard School. Bill used his love of motorcycles to honor veterans by escorting the families and funeral processions of fallen soldiers as a member of the Patriot Guard.

Bill's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children Jonathan (Diane) Hart, Alaina (Matthew) Luther, along with his grandchildren Ava, Jaxen, Grace, Lilyana, and Charlotte. Bill leaves behind his brothers Brian (Marcia), Robert (Margaret), and Bruce and numerous cousins, that he loved dearly as siblings.

Later in life, Bill moved to the east coast of Florida where he enjoyed the warm weather and abundance of motorcycles. Bill's friends in Florida could always count on him for a cold beer and good laugh. He will be remembered for his big heart, fun stories and bringing joy to others with his unique humor and positivity.

There will be a funeral mass on June 28, 2024 held at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Troy, NY followed by a celebration of life.  Bill was a big believer in paying it forward and helping others.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warriors Project in Bill's name.
