William H. Ryan, 84, died peacefully on October 19, 2014. Bill was born in Evanston, II on February 18, 1930 to Michael and Marion Ryan. He was educated in Iowa and Mexico City. Following three years in the US Army, 470th CIC detachment stationed in the Canal Zone Panama, he continued his education in 1955 at the Thunderbird Global School of International Management in Phoenix, AZ. He spent the following 36 years with Citibank International Division in New York City, Colombia, Ecuador, and Miami, FL. He retired from Citibank in 1991.
In Miami he was active in the St. Richards Catholic Church serving as a lector and with the Knights of Columbus as a Grand Knight, District Deputy, and a member of the 4th Degree. He was a member of the Lumen Christi Society, recognized for his contributions to the Catholic Church. He became an Emmaus Brother in 2002. Bill enjoyed volunteering with the organization Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic where his bilingual talents proved valuable. In 2007 he and Norma moved to Deland, FL.
Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma; two children, William (Cidalia) of Deland, FL, and Kathleen Aries (Richard) of S. Windsor, CT; six grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer), Sean, Alex, Emilie, Ethan and Isabel; one great-grandson, Liam Ryan; a sister, Marion Bunch (Austin) of Atlanta, GA; a sister- in-law, Ellen Ryan of Glenview, II; and two nieces and a nephew. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Marion, a brother, John, and a nephew, Jerry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Peters Catholic Church at 10:00am. A visitation will be held Friday, October 24th, 2014 from 6pm to 8pm at Lohman Funeral Home Deland.
