William S. "Bill" Dean
of Ormond Beach passed away peacefully on September 27th, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was born in the District of Columbia to Snowden E. and Mary Iris Dean on November 9, 1933. He graduated from Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, VA, attended Dayton College, served in the Navy where he learned to fly airplanes and do carrier landings, then attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute after his service. Bill often would say if it had anything to do with automobiles, he did it. He went from owning a service station, a repair shop, was a management consultant (NADA), a Ford Motor Co. representative to owning new car dealerships. While with Ford Motor Co. he was assigned to and in charge of the White House Armored Vehicles Division during the Nixon administration - a job he dearly loved. A major part of this job was being a liaison for the building of a new presidential limousine. After retiring to Florida he and his son Roger opened Dean's Auto Outlet in Holly Hill which he helped run for the first 10 years of this ongoing company. Bill loved his classic Mustang cars and fully restored a 1966 convertible and a 1969 Mach 1. He and his wife Ruth participated in cruise-ins and shows throughout the state, earning numerous awards in the modified category including Best Of Show. Along with being a long time member of the Mustang Club of America he was a charter member of the Daytona Mustang Club serving terms of Board of Director and President. He drove and delivered Meals-On-Wheels for many years. He was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church serving on the vestry for a number of years and on the altar as a Eucharistic minister and reader. His quick wit and great sense of humor were apparent to all who met this joyful and totally unique man. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Ruth, children Roger (Cindy), Ormond Beach, Blair (Karen) Lawrenceville, GA, Debbie (Jim), Sanford, FL, step-son Rick Obsitnik (Kristi), Chattanooga, TN, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and all those who knew him. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Marlene. A celebration of his life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church at
11:00 a.m.
on Saturday, October 27th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. James Episcopal Church,
