William "Dave" Hudson 73 of Ormond Beach passed away February 20 2013. Family welcomes friends to a Gathering in Dave's honor on Saturday March 2 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. The Memorial Service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
Dave grew up in Fayetteville WV. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life Gerda. They married and moved to New Jersey. Dave and Gerda had two daughters Stephanie and Jennifer. His family was his passion. Dave took exceptional care of Stephanie who was born disabled. He worked tirelessly to ensure her proper care as an adult in a group home through the state of NJ.
Dave worked as an accountant for a paper products company in NJ for 25 years. He and Gerda retired to Florida in 2004. Dave loved being in FL and his retirement. He was dedicated to his community always helping others especially in his beloved Plantation Bay neighborhood. He was a strong supporter for the rights of the handicapped and disabled.
In his spare time Dave collected coins and stamps. He enjoyed drawing particularly architectural designs. Dave also loved tennis and bowling. He could also be found reading and puttering in the yard.
Dave will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years Gerda and by his daughters Stephanie Hudson of NJ and Jennifer Hudson (fianc Freddie Olivelli) and by his granddaughter Sofia Helena Olivelli of Jacksonville FL. He is survived by his sister Patricia Crabill of Palm Coast and his brother Roger Hudson (wife Jill) of Fayetteville WV. Dave was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law Pete Crabill.
