William "Bill"
Briley
Nov 15, 1940 — Jan 14, 2019
Ormond Beach
William D. Briley, "Bill" to all of his friends, passed away January 12, 2019. He joins his family who have preceded him in death – his father Harold D. Briley, his mother Sheila Vandiver Briley, and his brother Robert S. Briley. Bill was born on November 15, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee. As a child, he lived in a variety of places ranging from Florida to Iowa to Missouri before coming back to Florida to his beloved "flat state." Bill graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1959, and continued on to Florida Southern College, studying engineering. During his career, Bill worked for several engineering, utility and construction firms, including his family-owned Briley, Wild and Associates, Pruett and Associates, Boise Cascade Company, Lowery Brothers Construction, Volusia Construction, Russell and Axon Consulting Engineers, and Volusia County Government, from where he retired in 2002. After retirement, he owned and operated Utilities Inspection & Consulting Service, Inc. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family, as well as watching Florida State Seminole football games and NASCAR races. Bill is survived by his wife, Wanda Osteen Briley, his two children, Harold D. Briley, II (Lori) and Brooke Briley Yancey (Josh). He is also survived by three dearly loved grandchildren, Ashlyn Yancey, Landon Yancey and Alex Osuna. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila Briley Merlau (Dean) of Tallahassee. His many nieces and nephews and abundance of great nieces and great nephews have wonderful memories of their Uncle Bill's gruff exterior, but warm heart. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ormond Beach First United Methodist Church, located at 336 S. Halifax Drive in Ormond Beach on January 22, 2019. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 P.M., with services at 2:00 P.M., with interment immediately following at Hillside Cemetery. As Bill's many friends know, he would want you to wear something comfortable, so please do. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home at 51 Main Street, Enterprise, FL 32725.
Arrangements are under the care of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Beach. Condolences for the family may be shared at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com .
