William "Bill" Henry Newell, 88, passed away on September 3, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Norma Knight Newell, his daughters, Donna Vercillo and Susan Braman, and son William(Billy) Newell Jr., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bill served in the Navy during WWll, and was a plank owner aboard the USS Henry W. Tucker. His career as a photo-engraver began after his service in the Navy. He worked at the Miami Herald and then the Sun Sentinel for thirty years. Bill was "Dr.Vocabulary" to many, as his love for the use of descriptive and novel words were well known. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was very involved with Little League Baseball in Ft Lauderdale, where the name "Newell" appears on one of the fields of Floyd Hull Stadium. Bill was an active coach for Little League for many years.
Bill's grown children and grandchildren cherish the many fun adventures, countless hours of laughter and entertainment their father/grandfather provided over all the years they were blessed to have him.
A graveside memorial with military honors will be held on Friday, September 25th at 2:00 pm at Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona Beach, Florida.
