Funeral Service for William Bickel 60 of Renegade Lane in Port Orange will be held at 10 am on Saturday March 10 in the chapel of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home with hospice chaplain Leslie Avchin officiating. His family will receive friends on Friday from 4pm till 7pm. Mr Bickel passed away on Monday March 5 at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange.
A lifelong resident of the Halifax area he retired in 2005 from the City of Daytona Beach after 30 years holding various positions in the building department as a building and sign inspector and inspector supervisor. He held numerous construction related certifications with the State DBPR. He was also a master electrician and held a bachelors degree in engineering.
Bill was a proud alumnus of the Mainland Class of 1965 and served on the reunion committee. He played football at Mainland and also participated in track and diving.
An Air Force veteran durin the Viet Nam era he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command. After the service he returned to Daytona Beach to pursue a career as an electrician before beginning his tenure with the city.
Calling Port Orange his home since 1992 he served on the city's Planning Commission and Code Enforcement Board. He also belonged to the Elks IBEW and the Indy Racing League Crew. He enjoyed traveling attending many professional auto races each year spending time at their homestead in northwest Indiana real estate investments amateur investing and spending time with his family especially weekend trips to Disney.
He leaves behind his wife of 22 years Judith daughter Kimberly son in law Joshua and granddaughter Hailey.
