Funeral Services for Willard M. Walker 91 of South Daytona who went to be with his Lord on Sunday November 11 2007 will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday November 15 2007 at the Baggett & Summers Chapel of Lohman Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Willard was born on May 4 1916 in Red Springs WV and was foreman for a coal mining company before moving to South Florida in1955 where he worked as a carpenter until getting started in real estate. In 1960 he moved to Daytona Beach and started Walker Real Estate. He was a real estate broker for 50 years. Willard attended Daytona Beach Christian Church where he was an elder. Willard loved the Lord and although legally blind he read his Bible daily using special equipment. He loved gospel music and supported many ministries that took the gospel into homes. He started a scholarship fund at Florida Christian College for young people being called into the ministry and last year was honored by the college for his many years of service by having a room dedicated to him and his late wife Sylvia. Willard volunteered with Hospice for many years was compassionate caring and always helped those in need. For the last 3 years he and his caregiver Peggy visited nursing homes weekly and took a rose to those who had birthdays. Willard loved tennis bowling and later in life took up golf which he played until his eyesight worsened. However with the help of his best friend Jack he was able to continue the game he enjoyed. Of all his passions in life his greatest joy and pride was for his family. "Pops" (as he was so affectionately known by his children and grandchildren) leaves to cherish his memory his son Dean and wife Reta; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sylvia and son Don. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in honor of Willard M.
