Obituary

Wilfred Vincent Carr, Jr., 98, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024.  He was born on July 4, 1925 in Manhattan, New York and served honorably in the United States Marines.  Vincent was proud to be a Montford Point Marine, one of the first African Americans enlisted as a Marine.  The Congressional Gold Medal of honor was presented to him in Washington, DC for his distinguished service as a Marine.  Vincent  also took pride in his service to his community as a corrections officer, earning the rank of Captain.

When Vincent  left the marines he worked as a supervising clerk for the Veterans Administration, where he met the love of his life, Gladys. He owned a bar & Grill, the club 807 in the Bronx New York with his childhood & lifelong friends Leroy & Douglas Sealy. Retiring years later as a Captain of Corrections, he worked as a private investigator for the legal Aid society of New York & for a private Law firm, and his wife's cousin Judge Kenneth Browne. Vincent enjoyed baseball and loved Jazz & Calypso music. He  traveled with his family on many car trips, then later did cross country trips with his wife, cruising on many ships, traveling to the Caribbean islands, South America, lots of Europe and Russia. At home Vince was always helping others. He enjoyed entertaining in his home, & hosting many BBQ's during the summer.  After moving to Palm Coast Florida, in 1990, Vincent and Gladys continued helping others as community volunteers and enjoying their many friends and family and trips around Florida.

Vincent  is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Mozelle Carr; daughter, Lois V. Pritchard; daughter, Stephanie Morales (husband, Tony); son, Stephen Carr; granddaughter, Miriam Pritchard-Gaither; granddaughter, Jeanine Pritchard-Parish; grandson, Raul Pritchard; grandson, Vincent D. Morales; great grandchildren, Austin Pritchard, Ciara Lenier, and Aurora Morales; great-great granddaughter, Laila Pritchard; cousin, Bill Sinclair; niece, Rosalind Patterson; and other extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents Wilfred Carr Sr, and Amanda Carr, his sisters May, and Violet Harris, and his son-in-law Eduardo A Pritchard.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 10AM at Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast, located at 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW, Palm Coast, Florida 32137.  Services will begin at 11AM at the funeral home.  Internment services will immediately follow at 2pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery located at 5525 US Highway 1, Mims, Florida 32754.
