Dr. Whalen passed away at his home in Daytona Beach Florida on Wednesday April 12 2006. Born on November 18 1938 in Kentucky he was a member of the North East Florida Builders Association and retired in 2001 after many years of building homes. He had a Doctorate in Urban Planning from The University of Louisville a Master of Science and a Master of Public Administration along with a Bachelor of Science and Arts. Dr. Whalen served in the US Army and the US Air Force from October 1956 to August 1960. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and was a Gold Life Master. In his spare time he loved to fish water ski play the guitar and fly airplanes. He had an Instrument Pilot License.
Dr. Whalen is survived by his mother Katherine S. Whalen of Lexington KY; a son Andrew C. Whalen of St. Augustine FL and a daughter Amy Whalen Hadsell and son-in-law William Eric Hadsell of Nashville TN. Also surviving him are 2 grandchildren Piper Grace Hadsell 3 yrs. and Forrest Leyton Hadsell 1yr.. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the Memory of Dr. Wayne Whalen to the DePaul School of North East Florida 6620 Arlington Expressway Jacksonville FL 32211.
