Wayne Edward Lurcock 60 died unexpectedly at his home in South Daytona on Monday. The Funeral Service for Police Chief Lurcock will be held on Friday September 30 at 10am at the White Chapel Church of God 1730 S Ridgewood Ave South Daytona FL with Law Enforcement Ceremony to follow at Daytona Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday September 29th from 5pm-7pm at Baggett and Summers Funeral Home 736 S Beach St Daytona Beach FL.

At the time of his death he was the chief of police for the Ponce Inlet Police Department where he had been employed since 1999 serving as a lieutenant and commander until his appointment to chief in 2010. During his tenure with the PIPD he managed the department's efforts to become accredited which was accomplished in 2003.

Prior to joining the Ponce Inlet Police Department Wayne spent 22 years with the Daytona Beach Police Department. He served in many capacities there including patrol community relations and as a police lieutenant and supervisor for the motorcycle unit. He is credited for putting together a number of special event plans. He retired from the DBPD in 1999.

Wayne recently retired as a Chief Petty Officer with the Coast Guard Reserve after 30 years of service. He was stationed in a number of locations most recently at Station Ponce in Ponce Inlet and at Mayport in Jacksonville.

Wayne was an avid mechanic and motorcyclist and spent time buying and re-building antique motorcycles and cars. He was a founding member of the Daytona Chapter of the Blue Knights Police Motorcycle Club. He also belonged to the Harley Owner's Group and the Antique Motorcycle Club of America.

Wayne was born in Syracuse New York and was raised in that area. He participated in a number of sports as he was growing up and was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he ultimately became an Eagle Scout.
Wayne attended the Coast Guard Academy and finished out his formal education at Rollins College where he received both a bachelors and masters degree.

Wayne is survived by his wife Susan his two children Jason Oakley (fianc Renee) of South Daytona and Carrie Ulfig (husband Andy) mother Eleanor Lurcock and his brother Robert Lurcock (wife Penny) both of Cicero New York his step-daughter Katie Jontes (husband Scott) and his grandson Cole Jontes of Port Orange.
