Obituary

Walter "Walt" Allan Roberts, 76 of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away at home on Saturday, July 15, 2017.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach at 4:00 pm.
Walt was born on June 17, 1941 in Margaretville, New York to Allan and Blanche (Streeter) Roberts. He graduated in 1960 from Fleischmanns High School in Fleischmanns, New York. Upon graduation, Walt began his employment with Pratt Whitney United Technologies in North Haven, Connecticut. He retired on December 31, 1997, after 37 years of employment as Chief Statistical Data Analyst.
Walt has been a resident of Volusia County, Florida since January 1998, relocating from Wallingford, Connecticut.
Walt enjoyed traveling throughout the world, but truly loved to discover the wonders of the United States. Walt was a Lifelong New York Yankees baseball fan who lived for the summer baseball season and the play-offs. Over the door to his study, a sign reads; "Yankees Fan Cave - Where there is no Off Season".
At Bear Creek, Walt played in the Warren Soehren Horseshoe League for over ten years, winning the Golden Horseshoe award in 2007 and 2010. Swimming and playing golf were other activities which he enjoyed in Florida.
Walt felt that community service gave purpose to his life. As a Florida Hospital Hospice Care volunteer, he visited many Hospice patients to brighten their days and to bring smiles to their faces. In April 2017, Walt was honored for over 15 years of patient and family service at the annual Florida Hospital Hospice Care Volunteer luncheon.
As a pet parent for his beloved dog, Callie, Walt recognized the importance that pets play with their Hospice patients. He and his wife, Nancy, served as committee members of the Florida Hospital Pet Peace of Mind Program. This Florida Hospital Outreach Program raised funds to support the physical care and well-being of Hospice patient's fur babies, both during and after patient's lives.
Walt is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Roberts of Ormond Beach, his loving daughters, Michele (Dave) Avery and Nicole (Bill) Roberts as well as his four grandchildren whom he adored; Saige Avery, Jayda Avery, Kyle Roberts and Jack Roberts, all of Middlefield, Connecticut. Memorial contributions may be made in Walt's memory to the Florida Hospital Hospice Care Foundation.
