IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Walter E.
Reik Jr.
September 8, 1930 – March 21, 2025
Walter E. Reik Jr., born on September 8, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, peacefully entered his Savior's arms on March 21, 2025, at the age of 94. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and educator, he lived a life filled with love, kindness, and faith.
Walter was the beloved husband of Doris Schonscheck Reik, his wife of 67 years. Together, they built a life rich in love and cherished memories. He was a proud father to Julie Nathan (Don) of Columbus, Ohio; Diane Levkulich (Chuck) of New Smyrna Beach; and Tim Reik of Daytona Beach. He was also a loving grandfather to six grandchildren—Nikki, Danny, Nathan, Brittany, Tyler, and Joshua—and a great grandfather to five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Walter earned a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Master of Music Education (MME) from the University of Michigan. He proudly served as a musician and bugler in the United States Army. A dedicated educator for 40 years, Walter was a positive influence on generations of students. His passion for music education, along with his unwavering support and love for his students, left a lasting impact that extended far beyond the classroom.
Walter deeply loved his family, his students, and, above all, Jesus Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life, guiding him in all he did and serving as an inspiration to those who knew him. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Daytona Beach and an active participant in their Life Group.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter E. Reik Sr. and Esther Reik, as well as his brother Don. Walter's life was a testament to hard work, integrity, and the power of love and faith. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will greet friends and family at 10:15 AM on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave, Port Orange, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM..
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Walter's memory to First Baptist Church Daytona Beach, Samaritan's Purse, or a charity of your choice.
