Walter Robert McDonald

Walter "Bud" McDonald, 92, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022 at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach , Florida. He was born on September 21, 1929 in Bronx, NY to the late Walter McDonald and Florence Licht.

He served in the Army, stationed in Japan, from 1947-1950 .Bud worked for the Department of Transportation for 28 years, with the NYS Highway Department, was the former building inspector and water plant operator for the town of Amenia. He was a member of the Amenia Fire Company, and donated his time to maintaining the Amenia Monarchs Baseball fields. Bud enjoyed working, helping people, baseball, football, and playing cards with his friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend.

"Bud was everyone's favorite uncle; giving the Depot Hill gang truck rides to the Dairy Queen and setting off Fourth of July fireworks for the McDonald family picnics." "An Amenia legend in so many ways! With a Heart of gold, a strong handshake look in the eye kind of guy, who loved life and the people around him."  "He was a role model for good work ethics, morals and values."

He relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida in November 2002, and opened his home for family and friends to visit and enjoy great food, ice cream, mini golf, go carting, zoo and gator farm visits, Kennedy Space Center, skateboarding, beach, swimming and creating lasting memories!

Bud was preceded in death by his parents,  and his sisters: Mary Ellen Downey and Patricia Macura.  He is survived by his loving family, son, Gerald McDonald and his wife, Robin of Amenia, NY, daughter, Brenda Daniele and and her husband, David Daniele of Millbrook NY, brother, Joseph  and his wife, Gail McDonald of Fernandina, FL and sister, Anne Cutolo of Knightdale, NC, 4 grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY 12501, on Thursday, October 13 at 11:00am for family and friends.
