Wolodymyr"Walter" Kowal 86 of Daytona Beach passed away on Thursday August 11th 2011.
Walter was president of the Ukrainian American Society of Daytona Beach and Vicinity. With his participation they were present for over 30 years at every international festival and parade in the area. He was a lifelong member of Ukrainian charities and underground freedom fight groups too many to list. He was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Apopka where his strong voice will be sorely missed. Among many jobs he held over the years in America his longest tenure was that of steelworker for Bethlehem Steel in Pittsburgh PA where he retired a foreman.
Born to a family of poor farmers during a time of turbulence and war he found a different calling in the fight for freedom. Although his mortal remains will lay here in America with his beloved wife of 50 years Eudokia part of his soul will always rest in his beloved homeland of Ukraine. Those touched by his warm heart and indelible smile shall never forget him.
He is survived by his four sons Zenon Bohdan Wolodymyr Jr & Jaroslaw Stephan his daughter Halyna six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his close friend and companion Ms. Lydia Woloshyn
A visitation will be held on Monday August 22nd from 5pm-9pm at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona 1423 Bellevue Ave. Daytona Beach FL. A Mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday August 24th at the Saint Mary Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church 245 Lake McCoy Drive Apopka FL 32712. Burial will immediately follow the service at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery 1425 Bellevue Ave. Daytona Beach FL.
