Mr. Walter V. Kain Sr. 87 a retired New York City Firefighter passed away Saturday July 26 2008 at Ormond in the Pines Ormond Beach Florida.
Services will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday July 31 2008 at the Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange with Pastor Bobby Smith of South Daytona Christian Church conducting the service. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kain was born in Springfield Mass. Then relocated to Brooklyn New York married raised a family and worked as a Chief Marine Engineer on the John D. McKean Fireboat along the Hudson River for 30 years and then retired to Daytona Beach in 1982.
Mr. Kain was a World War II veteran serving with the Army in the Pacific.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Daytona Beach and also was a member of the Moose Club. He was also very proud of the fact that he helped his son's growing up as their Boy Scout Leader. He also volunteered his time helping to build the All Children's Park in Port Orange.
He attended South Daytona Christian Church and was an active member of the group Singles over Sixty.
During the course of his life time he donated 93 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Nellis Kain his infant son Peter Kain his second wife Phyllis S. Kain and his finance Gertrude Pieroni.
He is survived by his sons Walter V. Kain Jr (Janet) Jimmy Kain (Marlene) his step daughter Carolann Bailey (Robert) his older brother Donald Kain (Ernestine) sister in law Grace Zachary 11 nieces and nephews And 8 grandchildren
Wally enjoyed fishing playing cards taking cruises and traveling but most of all
"walking talking and sharing his stories' with everyone he met!
