Celebration of Life services for Mr. W. Roger Fortin age 80 of Port Orange FL who died on June 28 2009 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler will be held on July 3 2009 at 1:00pm at Cardwell Funeral Home Port Orange. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Cardwell Funeral Home on July 3. Mr. Fortin was born in Lewiston Maine on December 24 1928. After working at Aetna Life Insurance in Hartford Connecticut for 26 years he retired and moved to this area from Windsor Locks Connecticut in August; 1983.He was gifted in home carpentry and hand-crafted furniture. He started painting landscapes as a teenager and continued into his mid 70's. He took up photography after retirement eventually joining the Daytona Beach Shores photo club where his photos placed 24 times in 8 months. Musically he could pick up almost any instrument and play it and could play by ear. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Radio Operator from 1948 - 1952 serving in the Philippines and Korea. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1957. Survivors include Vita T. Fortin wife of Port Orange FL; Lisa Fortin Merriman daughter and Scott Merriman son-in-law of Palm Coast FL; Tina Fortin Escalante daughter Robert Escalante son-in-law and Jenna Lee Escalante granddaughter of Palm Coast FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. His son Marc Fortin predeceased him in June 2006.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32129.
