Vivian Virginia Masters passed away July 26 2005. Vivian was born in Canton Illinois August 16 1918 to Glenn and Clara Smelser. She graduated from Canton High School in 1935 and went on to graduate from Western Illinois University where she also received her Masters Degree in Education. She was first and foremost an educator and taught at various levels during her over thirty year career. An innovative and creative teacher she was always admired for her technique and was considered ahead of her time. In addition to her teaching she was an educational advisor for the State of Illinois and a language consultant to Encyclopedia Britannica films. She was a world traveler; an accomplished bridge player; and avid crossword puzzle solver which she said led to her son?s talent for cryptology. She was an excellent pianist and vocalist and passed those talents to her daughters. A truly beautiful lady she felt that by looking good she made the world a more beautiful place. Never one to drink cheap wine she constantly reminded us it was all about ?life and love?. After vacationing in Ormond Beach for many years she moved permanently to the area in 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband Col. William D. Masters and her sister Geraldine. She is survived by her son Rear Admiral Bill Masters of Ormond Beach ; her daughters Dr. Ann Masters Salomone of Chillicothe Ohio; and Roberta Kay Estrada recently of Ormond Beach.
