IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Lake
Rawlinson
June 27, 1921 – August 31, 2024
VIRGINIA LAKE RAWLINSON
June 27, 1921 – August 31, 2024
Virginia "Jinny" Rawlinson passed away peacefully in her Port Orange home on August 31. She was 103. Jinny was born Virginia Marie Lake in Flint, Michigan, to Erban and Irene Lake on June 27, 1921. She was raised in Whitehall, Michigan, with younger sisters June and Pat. Erban and Irene also had a son, Vincent, who died in infancy in 1919.
After graduating from Whitehall Senior High School in 1939, Jinny attended Western State Teacher's College from 1939 to 1941. She married Woods K. "Woody" Rawlinson on April 17, 1942, in Reading, Michigan. Woody embarked on a long career as a pilot for Pan American Airways. The couple lived in such far-flung locales as Seattle, Miami, Guatemala, Houston, Panama, and Massapequa, New York. They had four children: Mary (who died in childhood), Sharan, Terry, and Kennard.
In retirement, Woody and Jinny settled in Port Orange to be near family. Their home in the Spruce Creek Fly-In was the site of many holiday dinners and family gatherings throughout the years. A gracious hostess, Jinny always delighted in having a houseful of guests. She was a skilled bridge player and a talented artist, who painted and worked with stained glass. Her family will treasure the many memories of time spent with her. She had a warm spirit, but also the toughness and pragmatism of one who came of age during the Great Depression.
Jinny was predeceased by her husband, Woods K. Rawlinson; her daughters, Mary Rawlinson, Sharan Mahannah, and Terry Rawlinson (Jim Foxman); her brother, Vincent Lake; and her sisters, June Newtson (Richard) and Pat Burt (Harold). She is survived by her son, Kennard Rawlinson (Claudia); her grandchildren, Kaala Rawlinson, David Foxman (Kelli), Matt Foxman (Karen), and Adam Foxman (Bethany); her great-grandchildren, Grant Foxman, Cooper Foxman, Maryn Foxman, Lila Foxman, Caden Foxman, and Lincoln Foxman; and her nieces, nephews, and cousins around the country. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, Florida. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice, Halifax Health, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
