Obituary

Virginia Rose "Ginny" Jones (née Buckenmeyer), 91, of DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 3, 2026, at Woodland Towers.

Ginny was born October 13, 1934, in Monroe, Michigan, to Theodore Buckenmeyer and Rose (Loeffler) Buckenmeyer, and grew up with her siblings Donna (Buckenmeyer) Mossing, Donald Buckenmeyer, and William "Bill" Buckenmeyer.

A graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio, Ginny began her career as a secretary at Travelers Insurance, where she met her first husband, Howard Bevington. Together they had four children: James "Jim" Bevington, Kathy (Bevington) Lowry, Kevin Bevington, and Keith Bevington. She spent several years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to work as a secretary.

The family later moved to Maitland, Florida, where she worked for several companies including South Seminole Bank, Ford Automotive, and City Bank Corp. During this time she met her second husband, Verbun Jones, and they later made their home in Dania, Florida. Ginny eventually concluded her career as a manager at Plantation Sysco in Miami Gardens, Florida, where she worked for many years before retiring.

After retiring, Ginny and Verbun moved to DeLand, Florida, to be closer to their family. Ginny was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and four great-granddaughters who brought her endless joy.

Ginny was known for her sharp mind, active spirit, and deep love for her family. Music filled her life. She was almost always singing and especially loved finding and singing harmony in any song she heard. She shared that joy with those around her through church choirs in both Florida and North Carolina, the West Volusia Chorus, and family jam sessions at home with her children and grandchildren. She played the trumpet, organ, and a bit of guitar and loved to dance, often dancing in the kitchen with family (with or without music). For many years she performed with a clogging group and later enjoyed learning square dancing with Verbun during their time in the North Carolina mountains.

Along with music and dancing, Ginny had many interests including gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, volunteering, and traveling. She also had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs, who were cherished members of the family.

Ginny was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church and was deeply involved in parish life, serving as a choir member, cantor, lector, Eucharistic minister, and minister to the sick.

She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and their families.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Daytona Beach on March 27, 2026, at 11am. The burial will follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lourdes Academy, Gentiva Hospice, or Parkinson's research organizations.
