Virginia Lee Nelson was born in White City, Alabama, to Ella [Warren] Horsley and Gerome Mayo Horsley. She moved to the Daytona Beach area her junior year of high school and graduated from Mainland High School.

Virginia worked as a bookkeeper for Ivey's Department Store. She enjoyed skating, dancing, and beach activities with her friends. While working and taking care of her Mother, Ella, she was introduced to James T. Nelson. They dated and married in January of 1948. Soon the laughter of children filled their busy home. Virginia was a wonderful homemaker and devoted Mother. She taught us to do the right thing and that we could accomplish anything if we set our mind to it. Because education was so important to her, completion of homework took center stage. Good grades were expected for all school levels. She loved boating, going crabbing at Ponce Inlet, and teaching us to safely climb our cedar trees by the river.

Virginia and husband, James, were avid Couple's Bridge Players and played golf as well. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren brought them much love and was a greatest joy.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, the Jr. Service League, Easter Seals, Worc, and many Parent Associations, Little League, Booster Clubs and PTA's and also a member of the Halifax Yacht Club and Oceanside Country Club.

Virginia is predeceased by husband and love of her life, James T. Nelson, parents; Ella [Warren] Horsley and Gerome Mayo Horsley, sisters: Bernice Bavaro, Nelle Nix, and Gladys W. Beck, and brothers: Ferris E. Horsley, Dorsey Horsley, and Savoy Horsley. Surviving children: Linda Rieck [Robert and Family, Junction, TX], Kathy Chick [Terry and Family, Ormond Bch., FL], Frank Nelson [Judy and Family, Holly Hill, FL], SM Nelson [and Family, Palm Coast, FL], Thomas Nelson [and Family, Eustis,FL] and many precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Services of Remembrance will be celebrated at Lohman Funeral Home, 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach on Saturday, April 16th at 10:00 am with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services. Inurnment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.
