Virginia A Burton, 87, passed away Dec. 26,2022, at the Highlands Full Care Center in Bessemer, AL. Virginia was born on June 14, 1935, in Eton, GA to Temple and Ruth Johnson. During her young life her father worked heavy machinery construction which resulted in her living in many states. She spent several years in West Virginia where she attended and graduated High School. The family settled in Detroit, Michigan where she attended Business School and later worked. She returned to West Virginia to visit friends where she met Robert (Burt) Burton, whom she dated and married on August 12, 1959. Virginia and Burt moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he worked at Bethleham Steel and later retired from. While in Baltimore, they became very interested in collecting and dealing in antiques, which they loved and spent all their free time traveling up the New England coast buying and selling. After Burt retired they settled in Ormond Beach, Florida where their interest turned to buying, restoration and selling of old travel trunks. Sadly, her husband passed away in 2011. Virginia continued to live there with her many friends and neighbors. In 2017, Virginia moved to Bessemer, Alabama to be close to her sister, Linda Thompson and her extended families and remained there until her death. She enjoyed family gatherings and learning about her extended families and their lives and interest. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Temple and Ruth Johnson, her brother Johnny Johnson, her sisters, Evelyn King and Benda Black. She is survived by her sisters, Elaine Van Amburgh of Texas and Linda Thompson (Jim) of Bessemer AL. Also surviving are her step son James Burton (Anne) of Tampa, FL and their 3 children and great grandchildren, nephew, William (Ruth) Johnson of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and special nephew, David (Marsha) Johnston of North Carolina and many other nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held on 2 PM, Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Daytona Memorial Park North. Funeral services will be handled by Lohman Funeral Homes of Daytona Beach, Florida.
