Obituary

McDonough Violette "Vi" 78 of Crane Lakes Port Orange passed away Saturday September 19 2009 at the Volusia/Flagler Hospice Center in Port Orange. Born in New York City in 1931 Vi's mother was French and her father was Argentinean. They met a board ship when they immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. After graduation from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York Violette went to work for the U.S. Government in Washington D.C. and was eventually assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Athens Greece. There she met and married her husband Bob who was also on assignment there. During their 48 year marriage Bob's work took them on tours to Okinawa Singapore Manila Bangkok and West Africa. They retired in 1979 and moved to Ponce Inlet to pursue their interest in water sports having snorkeled and fished in all their overseas posts and for many years were members of the Halifax Sport Fishing Club. Bob passed away in 2001 and Vi is survived by her sons Brian of Reston VA Mark of Plantation FL Christopher of Lehigh FL and daughters Patricia Wheeler of Cumming GA and Laura Devlin of Edgewater FL and 5 grandchildren. A celebration of Vi's life will be held 6:30 PM Wednesday September 23 2009 in the chapel of Cardwell Funeral Home. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donation be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler 3820 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL. 32127.
