Celebration of the life and witness of Virginia Kennedy Risse who went home to be with her Lord September 6th 2005 after a long struggle with Parkinson?s disease will be 4 p.m. Sunday September 11th at South Daytona Christian Church 2121 Kenilworth Avenue South Daytona Pastor Bobby Smith officiating. ""Ginger as she was know by nearly everyone was born Virginia Elizabeth Kennedy on May 28 1919 to Josephine J. and Kenneth B. Kennedy in Littleton North Carolina. She was raised in Durham North Carolina earning a degree from Duke University and a degree in Library Science from Emory University. Ginger moved to Daytona Beach after WWII where she met her husband Joe. She was a librarian for the Volusia County School system for over 30 years. A loving wife and mother Ginger raised 3 sons in a blended family. She was active for many years with South Peninsula Baptist Church later joining South Daytona Christian Church where she had been an active member for decades. She enjoyed card and board games with family or a small group of friends attending church family gatherings and TV sitcoms from a simpler era. She also enjoyed the company of a steady parade of stray cats over the years each of whom found a lifelong home. Ginger is fondly remembered for her generous spirit her pleasant disposition her laughter and her love and concern for others. In her later years she endured steadily progressing disability with grace and dignity. She was pre-deceased by her eldest son Ken Thompson. Ginger is survived by her husband of 52 years Joseph Risse Sr. her son and daughter-in-law Charles and Marsha Thompson Eustis son Dr. Joe Risse Jr. Deland two grandchildren Bert Thompson and Honor Thompson two great-grandchildren Noah and Emma Thompson and many friends from her church family.
