Lela L. Vessels 84 of South Daytona passed away April 14 2009 with her family by her side. Services will be private. Lela
was a devoted Christian of the Methodist faith. She was born December 26 1924 in Louisville KY where she worked as a buyer in the apparel industry for many years. Since the early 80's she and her husband of 65 years Red spent winters living at the Daytona Beach Campground until finally relocating to South Daytona Beach. She was a member of VFW Post 3282 in Port Orange as well as the Elks Club American Legion and Yacht Club in Madisonville KY. Both she and her husband frequented Boondocks Restaurant in Port Orange for many years where they made many wonderful friends. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing skiing dancing and partying with her family and friends. She loved to tell a good joke and was always the life of the party. Her family will remember her most as being the "disciplinarian" and for teaching the importance of having proper morals and standards. She never went to sleep angry and always kissed her loving husband goodnight. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Lela is survived by her husband Red; daughter Sherry (Lee) Jones of Myrtle Beach SC; grandchildren Steve (Amanda) Jones of Jacksonville FL Kimberly (Lloyd) Spaulding of Cary NC and great grandchildren Austin and Cameron Jones of Jacksonville FL
