Obituary

Mr. Vernon Kent "Snooks" Forrester, 83, of Palm Coast, Florida, formally of Boonsboro, MD went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL where he was surrounded by his family. Snooks was the husband of Dorothy Osborne Forrester, his wife of 64 years.

Snooks was born on September 14, 1932 in Damascus, VA to the late Jasper Holloway and Edith Forrester. He grew up in the Glade Spring, VA area before joining the United States Army and serving in the Korean War. He retired from the paint shop at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

Snooks was a hardworking, devoted man. He not only was the foundation of his own family, but he was to so many others including his own siblings, his in-laws, cousins, uncles, aunts, and many friends that became family. He loved gardening, flowers of all kinds, hunting, fishing, motorcycles, good country music, war and western movies, steaming crabs the Maryland way, and a good Miller High Life beer. He enjoyed teaching others how to paint, build things, and the ways to be a man. He never was truly retired, he always had something that he was working on. He was that dependable person, the first one there, and always there to help without passing judgment or saying a word. But most of all he was a family man and his family was his everything.

Snooks is survived by his three daughters; Dorothy "Janie" Phelps and husband John of Frederick, MD; Sarah "Sissy" Knotts and husband Gary of Palm Coast, FL; and Shelia Woloshyn and husband John of Somerset, NJ; four grandchildren, Ryan Nesbitt of Hagerstown, MD, Chastity Hite and husband Alan, of New Market, MD, Jake and Grace Woloshyn of Somerset, NJ; four great-grandchildren, Pvt. 2nd Class Ethan Hite of Germany, Mackenzie and Wyatt Hite of New Market, MD, and Kelsey (Nesbitt) Carter of Mt. Airy, MD. He wasn't only "Papaw" to his own grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but to Sherri Hill, Christie, and Billy Thoman. Snooks is survived by his siblings: Joan Hill and husband Harold of Frederick, MD; Sandy Thoman of McHenry, MD; Donald Hawthorne of McHenry, MD; David Hawthorne and Bobby Forrester. Snooks is also survived by many other family members from both his side of the family and his wife's side of the family. There are many friends that are just as much a part of the family, as well.

Snooks was proceeded in death by his brother, Thomas Holloway.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 4, 2016 at the Virginia Ave Church of God in Hagerstown, MD. If you choose to not send flowers, please consider a donation to Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164.
