Obituary

Lt. Col. Vern J. Hendershott 92 of Port Orange passed away March 8 2012. Vern was born in Yankton South Dakota on July 23 1919. He graduated from Tremont Community High School in Tremont IL. After graduating from high school Vern served his country for 23 years (1942-1965) in the U.S. Air Force during WW II in the European Theater and in the Korean War. He was a fighter pilot during WW II and was shot down over Germany. Mr. Hendershott received the Bronze Star Medal Purple Heart Air Medal and numerous other medals and citations during his career. After his military career he continued to serve his country by working in the Aero Space Industry. His passions in life were his family his country and playing golf. Vern was preceded in death by his parents: George and Addie Mae Hendershott; wife of 62 years Mary (Normile); son Vern Jr. and ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by eight nieces and nephews. Inurnment will be at Spruce Creek Cemetery by invitation only. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com.
