Velma Ann Karpinen Boyd RN. Died peacefully at home with her family Friday September 19 2008 after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. A memorial mass in her honor will be held Tuesday September 30 2008; 8:30AM at our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 4675 S Clyde Morris Blvd Port Orange FL. She was born July 2 1928 to Eric and Anna Karpinen in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. There her career with Food Fair/Pantry Pride spanned twenty five years as she raised two children Eileen and William Morrison.
Following a life-long desire Velma launched a second successful career in nursing graduating with honors from Daytona Beach Community College. She retired from Peninsula Medical Center in Ormond Beach in 1998 where she was the Director of Managed Care and Quality Assurance.
Her life passions included travel gardening politics her Westies and family then now and always.
Velma is predeceased by her son William R. Morrison her grandson Eric W. Morrison and her great granddaughter Danielle Morrison.
Velma is survived by life partner of thirty-seven years Leah M. Mager daughter Eileen A. Morrison great grandson Eric W. Sifford of Daytona Beach; great grandchildren Heather Lynne and Hunter lee Morrison of Longwood; brothers James J. Karpinen of South Carolina and Robert J. (Dee) Karpinen of Fort Pierce FL; daughter-in-law Joyce A Morrison of Cocoa; extended family of friends across the USA whose lives she touched with her unflagging zest for life.
She was a star that shot through the heavens of our lives; our sky will not be as bright tomorrow. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Dr. Richard Weiss oncology nurses: Joan and Penny and Hospice nurse Denese York.
