Valerie Klebe Teare

August 15, 1932—March 7, 2023

In the early hours of March 7, Valerie Klebe Teare passed away in her sleep at age of 90. Valerie was born in Rupert, Idaho in 1932. Her mother, Jane (Gina) Dal Soglio, was from an Italian immigrant family from Lastebasse, Italy. Her father, Charles Klebe was from a German family. They were all part of a vibrant community of pioneer families who homesteaded dry farms in Southern Idaho in the early 1900s. She had many great memories of smalltown American life including her father playing in the Town Square band and going to a small school where she had a tight group of girlfriends and the chance to play basketball (she was 5'2!). Her brother, Ronald Klebe (Arvella) preceded her in death.

She had too much pioneer spirit to stay in Rupert. In the mid-1950s, she boldly (for a single woman!) headed out to live in her beloved San Francisco where she worked as an airline ticket agent. She continued pioneering by serving as a stewardess on United Airlines passenger flights as they advanced from propeller planes to jet engines. She was based in Newark, NJ, Salt Lake City, UT and finally Washington DC. It was there that she met and married her husband of 54 years, Everett Hugh Teare. They had 3 children: Roxanne Marie Olsen (Joe Fioretti) of Ormond Beach, Christian Hugh Teare (Cynthia Stokes) of San Diego, CA, and Amy Teare Currin (Alan Currin) of Vienna, VA. Valerie was a homemaker for the family, and throughout the children's lives, they adventured to live in Palo Alto, CA; Fairfax, VA; Makati-Manila, Philippines; Ormond Beach, FL in the 70s; Ambler, PA; Dallas, TX, finally settling back in Ormond Beach in 1984. Her final move was to Bishop's Glen in Daytona Beach in 2015 where she continued her strongly independent life to the end.

She was active in the travel industry and enjoyed traveling as often as possible. She took cruises and family trips and was always ready to jump in the car or plane to go anywhere. She was a long-time volunteer for the News Journal Performing Arts Center and the Peabody Theatre and a member of the Ormond Beach Library Guild. She enjoyed gardening in and out of the Florida heat and playing tennis into her 80s with her longtime Bicentennial Park gang. Her greatest joy was her 3 children, 5 grandchildren (Ben Sechler, Jackson Teare, Henry Teare, Carolyn Currin, and Anna Currin), and her 1 great-grandchild Mason Everett Sechler.

The family will be gathering at her favorite spot, Outback Restaurant (135 E Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL) from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Friends and family are invited to join and raise a glass in memory of our dear mom.
