Obituary

Toby J. Linn
(May 2, 1950 – February 19, 2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Toby J. Linn, who left us peacefully in her sleep on February 19, 2025. Toby was a woman whose life was defined by love, wisdom, and an exceptional ability to nurture those around her.

Though not biologically her own, Toby adopted her son Richard Linn with open arms, offering him the love, guidance, and opportunities that only a mother could provide. She gave him a life far beyond imagination, teaching him the importance of kindness, honesty, and personal integrity. Toby was the epitome of acceptance, always embracing him as he was, regardless of circumstances. When he faced struggles, her unwavering support was matched only by her gentle guidance, often asking, "Did you learn anything from this?"

Toby was a woman of strong principles. She taught those she loved the value of punctuality, keeping one's word, and a relentless work ethic. Her laughter and sense of humor, which she passed down, were contagious, always providing light in the darkest of moments. Her ability to stay organized and her love of lists were just some of the ways she brought order to the world around her.

A lover of family, food, and open-minded conversation, Toby accepted everyone with warmth and compassion. She instilled in Richard the importance of feeding others and always offering a safe space for open dialogue about life, politics, humor, and relationships. Her open heart and keen sense of reason guided everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Her legacy is one of love, acceptance, and directness. Toby was always honest and never afraid to speak her mind, even when it meant sharing difficult truths. Her influence will live on in the way Richard approaches life, relationships, and the world around him.

Her passing leaves a profound emptiness, but she will never be forgotten. Her last words to Richard, "I love you," will remain a cherished memory. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate to be touched by her life.
Toby is survived by her son, Richard Linn, her brother Jack Himmelstein and his wife Eva Garnek, nieces Jennifer Himmelstein, Michelle Himmelstein, Leah AliKahn and Loren AliKhan, as well as numerous close friends.
