Thurman (Ted) Smith Nuse 91 of Ormond Beach Florida beloved husband father grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Thursday June 6th 2013. Ted was born on August 21st 1921 in Englewood NJ to George B. Nuse and Martha Nuse. He lived his early life in Englewood NJ. He married Peggy Ford of Sylvester GA. on December 18th 1945. They had two sons George Edward Nuse and Jeffrey Bernard Nuse. Ted is survived by son George Nuse and his wife Joyce and their children: granddaughter Treacy Nuse Hunter DPT (husband Capt. Matthew Hunter U.S. Army) granddaughter Laura Ann Nuse grandson Andrew Ford Nuse; and by his son Jeffrey and his wife Cathy and their children: granddaughter Amy Nuse Ramsey (husband Mark Ramsey) great-grandchildren - Jonathon Gracie and Ryleigh granddaughter Elizabeth Nuse Cuff (husband William Cuff). Many nieces and nephews also survive him. Ted entered the U.S.Army in September 1940 and was discharged as a Colonel in the Military Police in January 1971. He served in the CBI (China Burma India theatre) during WWII; he served in Korea during the Korean conflict and in Vietnam. He received Presidential citations in India US Korea and Vietnam. He received the Legion of Merit WWII Victory and Occupation medals Korean Service United Nations Service medal (5 campaigns) Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Armed Forces Reserve medal (30 years) Army Commendation medal Meritorious Unit Badge Vietnam Service medal (5 campaigns) Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal and the National Defense Service medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster. He attended OCS in Kalamazoo MI and then served at Warner Robbins Base in Macon GA. prior to deployment to the CBI theatre. He also served as Provost Marshall in the Military Police in Japan Germany Vietnam and within the 3rd Army command in the Southeastern U.S. He was an instructor at the Military Police Schools in Augusta GA and Oberammergau Germany. After his service in the military he worked for Wackenhut Security Corporation as Vice President. He was active in the Kiwanis Club for almost 30 years and much of his retired life was spent in support of Peggy's work in the CFAA FFGC and National Garden Clubs Flower Show schools. Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a future date. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
