Whipple, Thomas G. "Tom" - of Ormond Beach, FL., formerly of Clio, age 70, died Friday, November 2, 2018 at Bishop's Glen Retirement Center in Holly Hill, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Don O'Guinn will officiate. Entombment will follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 2-7 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bray Road Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
Tom was born October 22, 1948, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Francis and Ruth (Meier) Whipple. His family moved to Clio in 1961 and Tom graduated from Clio High School in 1966. He graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature. He also graduated from the Wayne State University College of Mortuary Science. Tom earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America. He took over the family business and owned and operated the Benjamin & Whipple Funeral Home in Clio and the Cole Funeral Home in Montrose (now O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes) for several years. He also owned Atkins Memorial Chapel in Vassar for years. Tom served on the Clio Board of Education, the Clio Rotary Club, the U of M Alumni Association, and was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio. He was also a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and was past President of the Genesee County Funeral Directors Association. He also served on the Board of Directors for Trust 100. Tom married Patricia Hallett on January 4, 1992. They moved to Ormond Beach, FL. In 1999. Tom served as an Elder at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Daytona Beach. He was a master gourmet chef and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed sailing and photography. Surviving are: Wife, Patty; Son, Aaron (Stacy) Whipple.
