CM Sgt. Thomas Joseph Vacchiano (80) passed away on March 30 2012 at 6:05 pm after a four year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born April 30 1931 to Neal and Margaret Vacchiano in Dayton OH. Tom and his wife Janet retired in Port Orange Florida in 1988.
An Air Force veteran of 26 years Tom served in Vietnam and received many ribbons and medals over his distinguished career. His great loves in his life were his family sports and John Wayne movies. He was voted most Outstanding Athlete at Wright Patterson Air Force base in Dayton Ohio in 1957 and 1958. As a Masters runner Tom completed 5 marathons in major cities across the US.
Tom is remembered most as a wonderful husband father and grandfather. His is survived by the love of his life of 60 years - Janet four sons: Thomas Jr. ((Lori) East Grand Rapids MI Charles (Jane) Hillsborough NC Gregory (Mary Lynn) Dallas TX Vincent (Christy) Deland FL. One daughter: Karen Hollman (Michael) Port Orange FL. Six grandchildren: Ian Dominique Erin Jordan Evan and Keelyn Grace. Two step grandchildren: Stacy and Carey. Five step great grandchildren: Austin Tyler Michaela Ryan and Flynn. One sister: Rosalie Lile Centerville Ohio and many friends.
Tom is deeply loved and will be missed very much.
A memorial service is being held at Lohman Funeral Home 1201 Dunlawton Ave Port Orange FL on Thursday April 5th at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and a reception will be held at Lohman's directly after the service.
The family has requested that donations be made in Tom's name in lieu of flowers to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of North Central Florida (3319 Maguire Blvd Orlando FL 32803) or The Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler County (3800 Woodbriar Tr.
