Dr. Thomas William Schroeder 89 of Daytona Beach FL died Monday April 22 2013 at Halifax Medical Center Daytona Beach FL. The family will receive friends on Thursday April 25th between the hours of 1-3 and 5-7 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona; 1423 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach. Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 26th at 3:00 pm at Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian Church 3221 S. Peninsula Drive Daytona Beach interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Tom was born February 23 1924 in Columbus Ohio to Carl and Emma (Heaton) Schroeder. After graduation Tom joined the US Marine Corps where he served in the Pacific as a Marine fighter pilot during WWII. After leaving the military he married his high school sweetheart Mary. He went on to earn his degree in dentistry from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He and Mary relocated to Volusia County in 1952 and set up his dental practice which spanned 38 years. He was a member of the American College of Dentists American Prosthodontics Society Academy of General Dentistry Volusia County Dental Association the Daytona Beach Dental Study Club as well as numerous other dental organizations. He served in the capacity of president or held offices in most of the dental organizations. He was a member of Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian Church the Military Order of World Wars the Navy League the YMCA Jr. Chamber of Commerce Kiwanis American Legion the University Club Embry Riddle Board of Visitors the Academy 100 with the University of Florida and the Daytona Beach Dental Study Club. Tom coached Daytona Beach Little League and the Daytona Beach Midget Football and was president of the Seabreeze Band Parents Assoc. when the band opened the Florida Pavillon at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Tom was an avid tennis player loved singing; was active for 20 years in the Barber Shop Quartets and he sang for 50 years in the First Presbyterian Church choir. He enjoyed sailing traveling the world and in recent years spending time at his summer home in Blowing Rock NC. He is survived by his daughter Sue (David III) Thomas Ormond Beach his sister Ann S. Huxley Daytona Beach five grandchildren David R. Thomas Kristen D. Pirkey Jason S. (Roxanne) Thomas David R. (Kerry) Thomas IV and Heather M. Koslin 9 great-grandchild Jaquelyn Thomas Savanna Thomas Jamie Thomas Alexandria Pena Herrera Isabelle Koslin Kelsey Thomas David Thomas V Avonelle Thomas and Parker Thomas sisters-in-law Dorothy Emswiler Columbus Ohio Donna Smith Cincinnati Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Schroeder in 1997 and his son Thomas Michael Schroeder in 2009. Tom was a loving wise and generous husband father brother grandfather friend and colleague and will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian church building fund. Arrangements are under the careful care of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
