Thomas "Tommy" Pincham 86 formerly of Palm Coast FL passed away on Tuesday May 22 2012 surrounded by his family in comfort at the home he and his wife Miriam shared with their son Reginald and wife Alicia in Charlotte NC after a long illness. A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday June 2 2012 at 10am until the Funeral Service at 11 am at the First AME Church of Palm Coast 91 Old Kings Road N. Palm Coast Florida. All Arrangements are under the Careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast. Tommy was born on July 2 1925 to Frederick and Beulah Pincham in Harlem NY. Tommy attended P.S. 89 and J.H.S. 65 on Manhattan's lower East side. He was drafted into the US Army on March 5th 1944 and served in the Army from May 5 1944 until May 20 1946. He underwent basic training at Camp Upton in Long Island NY. He then traveled across the country to Seattle WA boarding a troop ship to Okinawa. On Okinawa he served as a cook with the 865th Port Company. Tommy returned to the US and was honorably discharged as a PFC. Tommy's medals include the Army Good Conduct medal the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal the World War II Victory medal and the American Campaign Medal. Tommy met the love of his life when he returned to New York and on June 15 1957 married Miriam E. Sanders at the Amity Baptist Church in Jamaica Queens where the Rev. James R. Moore was pastor. Through their only child Reginald and his wife Alicia Tommy and Miriam's granddaughter Taylor was born on August 7 1997. Reginald and Alicia subsequently added to their family their nephew Antonio A. Pinckney and Tommy's grandnieces Anastasia Mary Bell and Lamone Joanne Patrice Davis. Tommy's work status unfolded while working as a structural draftsman at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He later worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was employed by the Triboro Bridge and Tunnel Authority as a Bridge and Tunnel Officer from 1968 until retiring in 1988. Also while working at Triboro Tommy enjoyed a stint of part-time work in travel. The fun was unforgettable because the Pinchams trekked to Buenos Aires Chile Hawaii Alaska Casablanca and other places. Tommy and Miriam desired a taste of Florida and relocated to Palm Coast in 1990. Shortly after moving to the Palm Coast Tommy joined the African American Cultural Society and was able to devote a great amount of time. He served on the Board of Directors under Chairman Jacqueline A. Brown. From the prospectus of building he served as a member of the Land Acquisition Committee and was formerly a member of the By-Laws Committee and finally as the AACS Historian on the Omni Committee and the former AACA Paper Airplane Committee and. his other memberships included the VFW the Auxiliary Coast Guard and the Afro-American Caribbean Heritage organization and the NAACP. Tommy's favorite pastime was bowling. In the 1970's Tommy appeared on the NY area syndicated television show "Bowling for Dollars" and managed to win a modest amount of money. Tommy bowled in a league with Calvary Baptist Church in Jamaica Queens. He was a member of a Palm Coast league and has awards in ping pong and table tennis from the Harlem YMCA. His other interests were painting and photography. Tommy and Miriam were members of First A.M.E. Church in Palm Coast where the Rev. Gillard S. Glover is the pastor. Tommy was an integral part of the Master's Mighty Men and while serving on the Trustee Board he was the trustee in charge of parking. Tommy relocated to Charlotte NC to live with his son and daughter-in-law and be near his family. Tommy continued to serve God in Charlotte by attending the Church at Rock Hill where Johnny E. Miller is pastor. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents his grandmother Anna Edmonds Sears his sister Anastasia Mae Bell and his brother Raymond A. Pincham. He is survived by his wife Miriam of over 54 years their son Reginald and wife Alicia and their 4 children his brother in law Timothy wife Lillian Robinson Duncan nephew Maurice Anthony Robinson Sr. wife Deirdre and their 4 children and 2 grandchildren Tommy's niece Joanne Vaughn son and 2 grandchildren niece Jacqueline Darlene Joyner husband Calvin niece Charlene Jackson her 4 children and nephew Johnny Vaughan his 2 children and 3 grandchildren nephew James Bell cousin Stella Harrison and a host of beloved friends in several states. Special recognition to Mr. and Mrs. Louis McCarthy and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Honeyghan for their years of devoted friendship and assistance.
