Thomas J. Flaherty, (89), of Ormond Beach, FL passed away on October 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

‍Thomas, fondly known as Tom, was born to John and Eleanor Flaherty, on October 29, 1933 in Utica, New York. He was a talented athlete who loved playing sports. Tom served in the U.S. Army, and earned an engineering degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. In 1955 he started a 30 year career with General Electric where he was key contributor on the research and development team. Tom was recognized several times for his team work and immeasurable contributions such as the Microprocessor Mobile Exhibit Tour and Program, highlighting Next Gen TV games and the system development radar presentation for GE's internal training course.

Tom is survived by his wife Clare and three children, Tim, Christine, and Colleen. He is also survived by his sisters, Joan Mullin, and Eleanor Newman, along with his five grandchildren, Matthew, Colby, Kaitlyn, Amanda, and Zachery, and his three great grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, and Myles. Tom was predeceased by his parents, John, and Eleanor, and his brother John.

Aside from his love for Notre Dame, and the NY Yankees, Tom enjoyed playing tennis, as well as umpiring for the local Volusia county area; he was honored to be a USTA line umpire at the US Open. Tom was passionate about giving back, and volunteered to teach local seniors how to navigate computer technology. As a husband, father, grandfather, and friend Tom was known for being calm, patient, and loving. He wore a gentle smile, and treated everyone with kindness, consideration, and understanding. One of the greatest gifts and values Tom bestowed upon his family was how to treat others with warmth, patience, and grace. Tom left his love and positivity with his family, and the community; he will be truly missed.

Tom's family will host a celebration of life service on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
