Thomas A. Coyne 87 passed away peacefully on July 14 2011. A Visitation will be held on Sunday July 17 2011 from 4pm - 6pm at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home 736 S Beach St Daytona Beach FL. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held Monday July 18 2011 at 10:30am at the Basilica of St. Paul 317 Mullally St. Daytona Beach FL. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.
Tom was born in Pittsburgh PA the youngest of 9 children on August 28 1923 to Senator James J. and Magaret Coyne of Galway Ireland. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering where he met his college sweetheart and wife of 62 years. He served as a tailgunner on a B-17 in WWII in Europe as part of the 301st Bomb Group. Tom retired after 30 years with Bessemer Cement Company where he worked as a Sales Engineer.
Tom was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan and proud of his friendship with Art Rooney. He was a passionate golfer which included 3 holes-in-one. He was an active member of St. Michael's Parish in Canfield OH. He was the President of Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield as well. Tom was also a member of both Halifax River Yacht Club and Pelican Bay Country Club. Being Irish himself he loved to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
He was a devoted Husband and Father. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Shirley Clayton Coyne of Orange City FL; his daughter Susan (Bill) Mullen of Greenwood IN; his sons Thomas A Coyne Jr. (Cecie) of Glen Ellyn IL; Terry Coyne (Jeanne) of Naperville IL; his sister Eleanore Gallagher of Pittsburgh PA; his eight grand children Patrick Maureen Terry Jr. Kelly Colleen Mark Chris and Conor.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Little Sisters of the Poor 1028 Benton Avenue Pittsburgh PA 15212.
