A Celebration of Life for Theodore "Ted" Richard Valinski a resident of Ormond Beach Florida who passed away at Flagler Pines Nursing Home in Bunnell Florida will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 6 2009. The family will receive friends at Lohman Funeral Home in Ormond Beach one hour prior to services. Ted was born on October 17 1919 in Simpson PA. The son of Stanley Valinski and Anna Zalinski. He joined the Marines for World War II where he met his life partner Mary Metivier on base in Rhode Island. When the war ended they settled in Groton CT. Ted retired from Pfizer in Groton CT in 1981 after thirty years of perfect attendance. He then moved to Ormond Beach FL in 1990 where he presently resided. While in the Marines Ted was part of the 4th Marine Division landing at Iwo Jima where he watched both flags raised a day apart. He was next assigned to be the first wave of Marines to patrol Nagasaki after the second nuclear bomb which ended World War II. Ted stayed interested in post war activities by joining VFW Post #189 in New London CT. where he marched in the holiday parades with his famous chrome helmet color guards. Ted also enjoyed all sports and loved the outdoors and most of all he loved his family. Ted's was preceeded in death by his wife in 2006 along with their daughter Catherine Valinski in 1953. Ted is survived by his son David R. Valinski of Richmond KY.; His daughter Jean M. Slaga of Palm Coast FL.; His nieces Shirlee Miller of Lexington KY. Bonnie Smith of Roch Hill NY. Susan Foss of Hobe Sound FL. Wendy Turner of Philadephia PA.; and his nephews Jackie Valinski of Texas Gary Valinski of Leola PA. and Eddie Joe of Arizona.
