Sybil Ajalat, 89 years young, has gone to enjoy eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the other great saints on Wednesday February 25 2015.
Sybil is survived by her loving husband of 58 wonderful years, Dick Ajalat, and two children; Stephen Ajalat and Mary Nell Ajalat.
Sybil Ajalat was born on April 29, 1925 in Neon, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Serur Frank and Selma Cury Dawahare, who emigrated from Damascus, Syria. She had eight brothers and two sisters. She leaves behind two brothers, A.F. Dawahare and Martin Dawahare, and one sister, Mary Dawhare and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was a dental assistant and office manager for her husband, Dick Ajalat in his dental practice located in Springfield, Virginia. Sybil and her sisters were instrumental in the success of her family clothing stores. As a young girl, Sybil worked for the family business "Dawahares" a chain of clothing stores until the day she married her husband February 24, 1957. The Dawahares chain, including Hoover's Furniture, was 35 stores strong in Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Aside from working in the family business, Sybil was well known for her beautiful smile that would light up a room. She had love and compassion for others and a generous heart. Her heart was golden and bigger than life. She was an outstanding all American woman, that truly loved her family. When you met Sybil, she instantly touched your heart.
Sybil was an avid philanthropist and supported numerous charitable organizations, and active in her church. Sybil received numerous awards and recognitions for her fund raising for St. Jude's Children's research hospital. Sybil was also active in Reach to Recovery for breast cancer patients.
Her hobbies were singing, sewing and cooking; and picking oranges from their orange tree for her husband and friends.
Sybil was a true Christian woman and lived her life accordingly. She attended St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Sybil was known as a cheerful giver and helped those in times that needed help. Sybil's love for Jesus Christ, family, and friends were her greatest passions and possessions. Sybil will be truly missed.
Visitation is at Lohmans funeral home 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174 on March 2. Public visitation at 5:30 to 7:30 and a short service at 7:30.
The funeral is at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 129 N. Halifax Ave., Daytona Beach, FL at 10:00 Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Duvall Presbyterian Home P.O. Box 220036; Glenwood Florida, 32722 in memory of Sybil D. Ajalat.
